Workshop flint knapping
This is the same workshop as ‘Workshop vuursteen bewerken’, but the information in English.
All over the world, but for Dutch standards, especially in the province of Drenthe , there have been lots of flint tool finds. While the materials aren’t originally from here, we’ve gotten lots of (small) pieces from the ice age. It drifted towards us in a big mass of ice, together with a lot of other rocks. From these small pieces, our ancestors made lots of different useable tools.
But we also find prehistoric flint tools from which the material has come from a place far away, and arrived here because of trade, These were mostly bigger pieces, and were highly valuable, like axes for example.
Would you like to experience this ancient craft and become a little bit closer to your ancestors? Get this opportunity to knap some flint!
This course will be given in English, but you will have Dutch speaking people around.
There will be one workshop on saturday 18th (group A) and one on sunday 19th (group B). Be sure to assign for the right group!
