Our Funnel Beaker café (de Trechterbeker) is the only café in Drenthe with a view of a hunebed – in fact, the largest hunebed of all. The museum café and adjoining terrace are open to everyone, with or without a museum ticket. So even if you’re just walking or cycling in the area, or want to see the hunebed, or just driving past, you are very welcome.
The café offers a wide choice of items from coffee or tea with local cake to soup or something more substantial. For lunch you might choose one of our appetizing bread rolls with a variety of fillings and exotic names like a Broodje Rapakivi, a Broodje Ijskap or even a Mammoetsmijter. A special children’s menu caters for younger guests.
Why not try one of our special old-fashioned beers or a glass of ‘hunebed wine’ (a ‘borrel’ as the Dutch say). And to go with it, you can choose a plate of traditional Dutch snacks with meat and cheese (Pingoplank) or even Rolling Stones (Rollende stenen), delicious deep-fried balls of meat ragout called bitterballen.
Special arrangements are available for groups, such as for school or staff visits, children’s parties, birthdays, company meetings or receptions. These can be arranged during or outside normal opening hours. The contact person for reservations and questions is Michelle Zandbergen (firstname.lastname@example.org or +31 (0) 599-236 374)
